Simón is a ladies man who makes his living smuggling illegal immigrants from Cuba to New York, where he drops them off and leaves them to find their own way. One day the US Coast Guard catches him on a run and chases him to the edge of Cuban waters. Andrés, a young sailor on his boat, saves Simón's life - taking a bullet in the process. While recovering from his wounds he falls in love with Marie, a seductive 16-year-old who lives at the brothel run by Simón's lover but who the older man is smitten with himself.
